Montauk Public School will be green as the doors open for school
President of Juice Energy, Inc. gives back to his childhood school by helping them to purchase 100% green power!
Montauk, NY (August 13, 2007) – Montauk Public School is going green with the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (REC’s) equal to their annual energy usage. Juice Energy, Inc. of New York, NY purchased the REC’s on behalf of the school.
The purchase of REC’s is to invest in electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar, geothermal, and wind farms. Montauk Public School’s REC plan deals entirely with energy produced from national wind generation. With the acquisition of REC’s, the school is offsetting the carbon emissions resulting from daily electrical use.
The school, serving grades K-8, has taken many steps to limit their carbon footprint. Montauk Public School Superintendent, J. Philip Perna, believes students should learn to respect the environment “Everybody talks about being ‘green,’ but we want to teach our students that actions are much stronger than words. We want them to know that we can all make a difference.” In addition to the purchase of REC’s, the school has also reinstated a recycling program that places containers for paper, plastic, and glass/aluminum in every classroom. “We need to demonstrate to the kids what we do on a daily basis. It’s a great way for them to learn.”
